Baseball Game Preview: Pueblo West Cyclones vs. Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans

The Pueblo West Cyclones will square off against the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pueblo West has three straight wins, Fountain-Fort Carson has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Pueblo West's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Rampart.

Jaiven Baca was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over 6.2 innings pitched. Baca was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Pueblo West is undefeated when Baca posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan King, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was JoJo Mendoza, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Pine Creek hit Fountain-Fort Carson with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans lost 11-1 to the Eagles.

Pueblo West's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Pueblo West took their win against Fountain-Fort Carson in their previous matchup back in March of 2016 by a conclusive 17-1 score. Do the Cyclones have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
