Basketball Game Preview: Lake Region Thunder vs. Discovery Spartans

The Lake Region Thunder will square off against the Discovery Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Lake Region is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 62 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Santa Fe Catholic on Monday. They were outmatched by the Hawks and fell 67-26. The Thunder were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-13.

Meanwhile, Discovery entered their game against Santa Fe Catholic on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Discovery fell just short of Santa Fe Catholic by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Spartans have suffered since February 15, 2024.

Discovery's loss ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Lake Region, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12.

Lake Region opened the new year with a less-than-successful 76-65 loss to Discovery. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Discovery's Darius Livingston, who went 11 for 21 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight assists and six boards.
