Baseball Recap: Piute Finds Playoff Glory Versus Maeser Prep Academy

It's playoff time, and Piute had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Maeser Prep Academy Lions on Friday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brodee Montague made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Mar, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bodie Gayler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Piute hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.

Piute has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Maeser Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Piute has already played their next contest, a 7-4 victory against Altamont on the 7th. Maeser Prep Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
