Baseball Recap: Piute Takes Down Maeser Prep Academy in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Piute walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Maeser Prep Academy Lions with a sharp 15-2 victory on Friday. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Brodee Montague made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Julian Mar was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bodie Gayler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Piute is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Maeser Prep Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

As of now, neither Piute nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
