Baseball Recap: Hitchcock's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Hitchcock brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Hempstead Bobcats on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak.

Joshua Dyer and Aaron Van Ness made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Dyer pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Van Ness struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Dyer a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Dyer scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Van Ness scored a run while going 3-for-5. That run was Van Ness' first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Fuqua, who scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Reece Robinson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Hitchcock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hitchcock's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-17. As for Hempstead, they dropped their record down to 5-18 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Hitchcock will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bobcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
