Baseball Recap: Burgettstown Takes a Loss

Burgettstown and Riverview squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Burgettstown had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.

Matthew Bredel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Burgettstown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brian Charles, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Burgettstown has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-4 record this season. As for Riverview, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-6-1.

Burgettstown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Riverview, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart on the 23rd.
