Baseball Recap: Maria Carrillo Takes a Loss

Maria Carrillo made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cardinal Newman, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pumas fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Pumas couldn't push the score so high this time.

Norman Shinn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maria Carrillo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Petersen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Maria Carrillo dropped their record down to 11-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.5 runs. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-10.

While Maria Carrillo had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
