Basketball Game Preview: Elkhorn Valley Falcons vs. West Holt Huskies

The Elkhorn Valley Falcons just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the West Holt Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Elkhorn Valley is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Elkhorn Valley is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Hartington-Newcastle: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Elkhorn Valley blew Hartington-Newcastle out of the water with a 61-22 final score. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 28 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elkhorn Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Karlee Broberg, who went 7 of 12 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Hartl, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Elkhorn Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, West Holt hadn't done well against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. West Holt strolled past Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] with points to spare, taking the game 44-30. Winning may never get old, but the Huskies sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Elkhorn Valley's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for West Holt, their record now sits at 8-3.

Elkhorn Valley came up short against West Holt when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 41-36. Can Elkhorn Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
