Baseball Recap: McDonogh Takes a Loss

McDonogh fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against St. John's Catholic Prep on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 11-10. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Michael Gorsky made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of McDonogh's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Andy Lambert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

McDonogh's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McDonogh will venture away from home to square off against St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Saints at the right time seeing as the Saints are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they are taking a road trip to challenge Boys Latin at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lakers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
