Basketball Recap: Montrose Beats Eagle Valley for Their Third Straight Victory

Montrose put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They secured a 44-40 W over the Eagle Valley Devils. That's more bragging rights for the Red Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Montrose had a senior duo take command as Kaleb Ferguson almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards and Brekin Hutto went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Hutto a new career-high.

Eagle Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonah Medina, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points and three steals. Medina is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Bates, who posted five points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

Montrose's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Eagle Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-1.

Montrose wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 39-35 loss against Peak to Peak on the 12th. As for Eagle Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 88-39 victory against Lake County on the 10th.
