Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Christian Brothers' Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Christian Brothers walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the El Capitan Gauchos on Friday, sneaking past 59-56. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Gauchos are ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Gauchos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Diego Ultreras, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 22 points. That was a full 39.3% of El Capitan's points, marking the third time in a row Ultreras has posted more than a third of the team's points. Anthony Jones was another key player, putting up seven points and 15 boards.

Christian Brothers is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-7 record this season. The defeat snapped El Capitan's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 20-11 record.

Coming up, Christian Brothers will welcome Sacred Heart Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Christian Brothers will be up against Sacred Heart Prep's rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.27 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. El Capitan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
