Baseball Game Preview: Riverside Beavers vs. Avon Eagles

The Riverside Beavers are taking a road trip to take on the Avon Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Wednesday, Riverside got the win against Benedictine by a conclusive 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Beavers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon). They never let Elyria get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Avon got a great performance from Casey Birth as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Birth also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Eagles are 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Gavin Koehler and Cameron Ocepek did most of the damage at the plate: Koehler went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Ocepek went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Ocepek has posted since back in April. Kyle Delury also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Avon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Riverside's record is now 12-5. As for Avon, their record now sits at 9-12.

Riverside beat Avon 8-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
