Baseball Recap: Palo Verde Valley Gets the Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Palo Verde Valley had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Central Spartans 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Yellow Jackets: when they faced off against the Spartans last Thursday, they had to take a 8-4 loss.

Drew Wright made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Wright was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Wright wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Cano, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run. Kole White was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Palo Verde Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Palo Verde Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12-1 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season.

Palo Verde Valley will venture away from home to challenge Ramona at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
