Recap: Boca Ciega Pirates vs. Plant Panthers

After flying high against the Northeast Vikings on Thursday, the Boca Ciega Pirates came back down to earth. Boca Ciega lost to Plant on the road by a decisive 63-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Boca Ciega can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while Plant is ranked 158th).

Boca Ciega lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacquavia Ferguson, who scored 17 points. JaLainah Hunt was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Jazlyn Bowman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Plant, scoring 30 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bowman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hanna Crouse, who scored 11 points along with six assists and six steals.

Boca Ciega now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Plant, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boca Ciega won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Flagler Palm Coast at 11:00 a.m. on January 13th. Flagler Palm Coast will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Plant will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Lakewood at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Averaging 66.8 so far this season, Lakewood's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Plant better be ready for a challenge.
