Baseball Recap: Salem Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bergman

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salem). They put the hurt on the Bergman Panthers with a sharp 17-2 win on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Greyhounds as they're now sitting on three straight.

Caleb Leisenring made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Leisenring was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Four bases. while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Salem's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kaiden Hollis was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Caleb Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.

Salem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Salem's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bergman, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Salem will take on Izard County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bergman will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Valley Springs at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st. Valley Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
