Baseball Recap: Coachella Valley Drops Season-High Score on Twentynine Palms

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coachella Valley). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Twentynine Palms Wildcats on Monday. The Mighty Arabs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jesus Rivera made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Coachella Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-7 otherwise. Rivera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Coachella Valley let Vince Ponce and Alfredo Avalos run wild. Ponce scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Avalos scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, Avalos posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Angel Diaz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Coachella Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Coachella Valley's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Twentynine Palms, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Coachella Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
