Basketball Recap: Pine River Area Skates Past Houghton Lake with Ease

Pine River Area put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Houghton Lake Bobcats 61-34. With the Bucks ahead 35-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Pine River Area was led to victory by Ayden Nichols and Trevor Holmquist. Nichols went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points, while Holmquist posted 11 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Nichols a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Gugle, who put up five points along with nine assists and six boards.

Pine River Area's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Houghton Lake, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine River Area will square off against Mancelona at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Houghton Lake, they will challenge Lake City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
