5A Continental recap September 10, 2013
ThunderRidge was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from third to first in 5A Continental. The Grizzlies beat Ralston Valley 36-18 earlier in the week.
Chaparral scaled the state rankings by moving to 26 from 63 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wolverines were able to make move up by falling to Grandview 14-0.
Trey Smith was the best running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 232 yards as Douglas County bested Westminster. Rubino JP (Jeffrey) also contributed to the rushing game with 80 yards on the ground.
Keaton Thames put up the best numbers through the air as Highlands Ranch defeated Ponderosa. He finished with 6 completions for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Palumbo was the best wideout in 5A Continental this week as the Golden Eagles beat the Wolves. Palumbo tallied 7 receptions for 121 yards. Nick Schmalz helped Mountain Vista's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 40 yards.
Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Huskies beat Castle View. Smith's favorite target this week was Bryan Wyatt, who caught 3 passes for 29 yards.
Smith was a beast in the backfield as Douglas County bested the Sabercats.
Jordan Jones made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Falcons bested the Mustangs. The 6-foot-1 defensive end.
Mountain Vista's Brock Rubley and Palumbo have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Rubley has thrown for 281 yards this season, while Palumbo has 12 catches for 172 yards. Jeff Ketron's team's Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 423.
The Huskies were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Castle View. Douglas County came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
