Basketball Recap: King Takes a Loss

King lost against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The King Mustangs took a blow against the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles, falling 109-49. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 870th, while the Eagles are ranked 26th).

Leading Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial to victory were Jaron Couture and Billy White Iii. Couture went 15 for 24 en route to 33 points and four steals, while White Iii dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Those 33 points gave Couture a new career-high. Sean Mondragon was another key player, going 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

King has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 30-0.

King will look to defend their home court on Friday against Miller at 7:30 p.m. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, they will head out to face off against Corpus Christi Moody at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 30 contests -- so hopefully Corpus Christi Moody likes a good challenge.
