Preview: Albion Purple Eagles vs. Newfane Panthers
Albion is 1-9 against Newfane since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Albion Purple Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Newfane Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Albion has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Newfane will arrive with nine straight wins.
Albion pushed their score all the way to 60 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Royalton-Hartland 66-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Thursday (55), Albion still had to take the loss.
In what's become a running theme this season, Newfane gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Akron 73-43 at home. That's two games straight that Newfane has won by exactly 30 points.
Newfane got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Seitz out in front who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Seitz has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Capen Mac, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Albion bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Newfane, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Albion was taken down by Newfane 88-34 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Newfane's Ben Dickinson, who scored 32 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Now that Albion knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
