Volleyball Recap: Newton Local Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Newton Local extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 10-12. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Houston Wildcats. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Newton Local saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Laila Avila had 11 digs. Avila has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times she's played.

As for Houston, their victory bumped their record up to 8-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since September 11th.

Olivia Maier was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had 28 digs and two aces. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game.

Newton Local wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Fairlawn on the 14th. As for Houston, they will be taking part in a tournament against Tri-County North at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
