St. Augustine floor general joins five-star center Cameron Ridley in Longhorns' 2012 recruiting class.
After a big July that could land him a spot in Thursday's updated MaxPreps.com Class of 2012 Top 100,
Javan Felix of
St. Augustine (New Orleans, La.) made a verbal pledge to Texas following a campus visit Monday.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound point guard was a bright spot for club team New Orleans Elite throughout the July evaluation period and led St. Augustine to a state title as a junior.
"Coach (Rick) Barnes assured me that it would be it the right place for me," Felix said of his commitment to the Longhorns. "Texas told me that I was their No. 1 guy, that they really liked me in July and felt like I'm what they need to make their program better. Texas really chose me."
Felix picked Texas over Baylor, LSU, Oregon and Virginia. With his college decision out of the way, the floor general is excited about teaming with 2014 star forward
Craig Victor for a repeat bid at St. Augustine.
"It feels good to have it out of the way and now I can focus on winning another state championship and improving on the things that Coach Barnes tells me I need to improve on," Felix said. "I'm just going to keep working hard."
The Longhorns have another stellar recruiting class shaping up. In addition to Felix, five-star center
Cameron Ridley of
Fort Bend Bush (Richmond, Texas) has already rendered a verbal pledge to the program.
