Baseball Recap: Malakoff Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Malakoff and Hughes Springs squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Malakoff had to settle for second. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 13-3.

Zain Jones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Malakoff's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 9-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Wallace, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Malakoff's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Hughes Springs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hughes Springs beat Malakoff by a score of 5-3 on Friday.
