Softball Game Preview: New York Mills Eagles vs. Pillager Huskies

New York Mills is a perfect 10-0 against Pillager since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, New York Mills didn't have quite enough to beat Wadena-Deer Creek and fell 6-5. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Wolverines recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, Pillager waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Silverstreaks.

Bailey Rudrud and Aidyn Schuett did most of the damage at the plate: Rudrud went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Schuett went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Anderson, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pillager kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Pillager's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for New York Mills, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

New York Mills beat Pillager 13-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
