Recap: Highland Hawks vs. Gilbert Tigers
After flying high against the Queen Creek Bulldogs last Friday, the Highland Hawks came back down to earth. Highland was the victim of a rough 68-46 loss at the hands of Gilbert on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Gilbert is ranked third).
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bailey Williams, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Addison Riggs was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Highland's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. As for Gilbert, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2.
Highland will play host again and welcome Desert Vista, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Vista has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Gilbert, they will head out on the road to challenge Corona del Sol at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Corona del Sol is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
