Baseball Recap: Central Aroostook Sets Scoring Season-High Against Ashland

Central Aroostook had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Ashland on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Hornets 15-4. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Trace Kinney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Kinney was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Dayton Taylor and Jonah Tweedie did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Tweedie got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Central Aroostook is 2-1 when Tweedie posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Keith Giberson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Central Aroostook's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7. As for Ashland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Aroostook will host Washburn at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ashland, they will challenge Hodgdon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
