Softball Recap: Crestwood Comes Up Short

Crestwood dropped their record down to 5-15 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-5 to the Kirtland Hornets. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Serena Wright was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Abby Hayes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Kirtland, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 8-12. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.

On Kirtland's side, Gracie Svigel tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Svigel has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Mastrangelo was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Maggie Kothera was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Crestwood will head out to challenge Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kirtland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
