Baseball Recap: Sandy Creek Takes a Loss

Sandy Creek extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Lowville Red Raiders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Comets of the 7-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Lowville, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

For Lowville's part, their win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Devin Sweirnik, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Sweirnik is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Brycen Villiere, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandy Creek will head out to face off against McGraw at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lowville, they will challenge South Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Raiders are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
