Black River won the last time they faced Oberlin and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pirates put the hurt on the Phoenix with a sharp 17-1 victory. Considering the Pirates have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mallory Eckert made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Eckert was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Black River got a massive performance out of Jenna Dieter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Madelyn Stief was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Black River has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.
