Baseball Game Preview: Lake Nona Lions vs. Poinciana Eagles

The Lake Nona Lions will take on the Poinciana Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Nona will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Lake Nona is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Lake Buena Vista an 18-0 shutout on Friday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Ryland Happel looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fabian Gavalo was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Fabrizio Sangronis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Poinciana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Foundation Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 29, 2024.

Poinciana saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Dawkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Poinciana's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Lake Nona, their win bumped their record up to 14-10.

Lake Nona skirted past Poinciana 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
