Softball Recap: Emporia Comes Up Short

If Emporia was riding high fresh off their 16-1 takedown of Independent on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans lost 23-6 to the Iola Mustangs on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the first time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 23-6 loss on Friday.

Emporia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marley Sewell, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jullianna Hamlin also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Emporia has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Iola, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Mustangs beat Emporia by a score of 23-6 later that day.
