Basketball Game Preview: Village Vikings vs. St. Pius X Panthers

Village and St. Pius X are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Village Vikings will take on the St. Pius X Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Village is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Marian just ended the team's four-game winning streak two weeks ago. They took a 72-53 bruising from the Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Eagles are ranked 84th).

Meanwhile, St. Pius X suffered their biggest defeat since November 2, 2024 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 70-33 loss at the hands of Houston Christian. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

St. Pius X's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Village, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Village couldn't quite finish off St. Pius X in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 41-39. Can Village avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
