Preview: Booker T. Washington Golden Eagles vs. Pike Road Patriots
Booker T. Washington is 0-3 against Pike Road since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Booker T. Washington Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Pike Road Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Booker T. Washington strolled past Dale County with points to spare, taking the game 40-26. The victory was just what Booker T. Washington needed coming off of a 27-6 defeat in their prior matchup.
Adean Glover and Joseph Phillips were among the main playmakers for Booker T. Washington as the former rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Phillips was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Marquez Daniel also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pike Road entered their tilt with Carver Montgomery with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Pike Road blew past Carver Montgomery 43-22. Considering Pike Road has won five contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team won by holding Carver Montgomery to a paltry 189 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Pike Road's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out seven times before it was all said and done. Carver Montgomery's QB won't forget Malik Blocton anytime soon given Blocton sacked him seven times.
Booker T. Washington's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Tallassee and 3-7 Dale County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.2% over those games). As for Pike Road, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Booker T. Washington has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 373 total yards per game. However, it's not like Pike Road struggles in that department as they've been averaging 371 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Booker T. Washington lost to Pike Road on the road by a decisive 49-34 margin when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Booker T. Washington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
