Basketball Recap: Chinquapin Prep Takes a Loss

Chinquapin Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 92-16 loss at the hands of the O'Connell Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Burrs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1490th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 441st).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead O'Connell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jarrius Smith, who almost dropped a triple-double with 19 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Roderick Dozier, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards.

Chinquapin Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for O'Connell, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-5.

Chinquapin Prep has already played their next contest, a 55-26 loss against Brazosport Christian on the 7th. As for O'Connell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 100-25 win against Briarwood on the 7th.
