Baseball Recap: York Institute Comes Up Short

York Institute suffered their biggest defeat since May 2, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against the Smith County Owls, falling 11-1. The loss continues a trend for the Dragons in their meetings with the Owls: they've now lost seven in a row.

York Institute saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garrison Garrett, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

York Institute's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Smith County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. York Institute is set to face off against their familiar foe Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Smith County will challenge rival Monterey at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Owls have won three straight at home, while the Wildcats won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
