Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Frewsburg's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Frewsburg won the last time they faced Chautauqua Lake and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bears put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Bears have won 13 contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gavin Weaver made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Frewsburg let Mason Eckman and Chase Haglund run wild. Eckman went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Haglund got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Eckman is becoming a predictor of Frewsburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 11-0-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Beckstrom, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Frewsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chautauqua Lake only posted an OBP of .261.

Frewsburg is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chautauqua Lake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Frewsburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-1 victory against Brocton on the 15th. As for Chautauqua Lake, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-3 win against Maple Grove on the 16th.
