Football Preview: Essex Trojans vs. Jamestown Eagles

Essex has gone 3-0 against Jamestown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Essex Trojans will be playing at home against the Jamestown Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Jamestown took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Essex, who comes in off a win.

Essex is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-6 win over Sussex Central.

Jamestown kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 41-18 to Nottoway. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured 12 defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Jamestown got top-tier performance from Ben Hanchett, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Hanchett got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible68 yards. A healthy portion of that aerial production (118 yards to be exact) went to Morgan Vaughan.

Jamestown wouldn't let Nottoway keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Jamestown can thank Conner (Cj) Peay and Brayden Strouse for forcing both of them. Strouse's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
