Basketball Recap: Jefferson Takes a Loss

Jefferson played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Lincoln Lynx and fell 78-32. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Lynx are ranked fifth).

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson lost, don't look at Jimmy Cotton. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points and six boards. Junior Gatkuoth was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Leading Lincoln to victory were Creighton Bracker and Jeremiah Slaughter. Bracker went 9 of 12 on his way to 24 points and five rebounds, while Slaughter went 7 for 8 en route to 12 points and five steals. The match was Bracker's third in a row with at least 15 points. Titus Rogers also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Jefferson dropped their record down to 2-15 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Lincoln, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Looking ahead, Jefferson will challenge Bishop Heelan Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln, they will take on Sioux City East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sioux City East's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
