Basketball Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Volcano Vista Hawks

Cibola is 1-9 against Volcano Vista since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Both will face off at 7:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Cibola knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Volcano Vista likes a good challenge.

While Cibola didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They strolled past Valley with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 67-49.

Meanwhile, Volcano Vista faced Hobbs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Volcano Vista came out on top against Hobbs by a score of 62-55.

Volcano Vista's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Cibola, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-2.

Cibola might still be hurting after the 76-55 loss they got from Volcano Vista in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Cibola avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
