Basketball Recap: Arrupe Jesuit's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

It was fun while it lasted, but Arrupe Jesuit's undefeated season came to an end after four games on Thursday. They took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Regis Groff Fusion. The matchup marked the Generals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Generals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xavier Martinez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds gave Martinez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Manuel Loya, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Arrupe Jesuit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Jamal Bailly was a one-man wrecking crew for Regis Groff as he went 10 of 24 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds. Bailly continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Javaree Paris, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Arrupe Jesuit fell to 4-1. As for Regis Groff, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Arrupe Jesuit didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-48 defeat against Conifer on the 20th. As for Regis Groff, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rocky Mountain Prep SMART at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
