            Basketball Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Fort Lupton Bluedevils        
        
		
        
        
            Basalt was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight  defeat. They were four  points away from ending the streak, but they lost  a   73-69 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fort Lupton Bluedevils. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game  last Saturday (62), the Longhorns still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Basalt lost, don't look at  Elias Schendler. Despite the final result, he  dropped  a double-double with 31  points and 14  rebounds. Schendler also  grabbed five  steals, which is notable because Basalt is 4-1 when he posts  at  least  three  steals, but 5-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was  Taylor Hays, who  went 5-for-8  en route to 12 points in addition to six  boards and five  assists.
 Even though they lost, Basalt was working as a unit and  finished the game with 18  assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their  assist total in four consecutive  games.
  Mylz Palmer was nothing short of spectacular for Fort Lupton: he  went 9-for-18  on his way to 30  points and four  steals. The dominant performance gave  Palmer a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of  Isaiah Garcia, who  went 7-for-10  to rack up 16  points and six  assists.
Basalt's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Fort Lupton, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record  this season.
 Basalt will face off against Steamboat Springs at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Basalt has given up an average of 43.8 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Fort Lupton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
