Softball Game Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Centennial Bulldogs

The Coronado Cougars will challenge the Centennial Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Coronado nor Centennial posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Coronado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Palo Verde, who was ranked first at the time (Coronado was ranked ninth). The Cougars took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers on Monday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Centennial also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Liberty by a score of 5-2.

Centennial saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Turner, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sydnee Smith also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Centennial dropped their record down to 11-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those road losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Coronado hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
