Softball Game Preview: Belpre Golden Eagles vs. Fort Frye Cadets

The Belpre Golden Eagles will head out to face off against the Fort Frye Cadets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Belpre is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Belpre duked it out with Eastern on Thursday. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Makayla Carmichael was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Avery George made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fort Frye came up short against Crooksville on Wednesday and fell 5-2.

Fort Frye saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Treadway, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Treadway has hit this season.

Belpre now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Fort Frye, their record now sits at 8-7.

Fort Frye's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Belpre hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346.
