Softball Recap: Wilmington Has No Trouble Against Romeoville

Wilmington got themselves on the board against Romeoville on Tuesday, but Romeoville never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Spartans. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 18 runs or more this season.

Lexi Strohm looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Wilmington got a massive performance out of Tayloe Stefancic, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. With that strong performance, Stefancic is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Nina Egizio, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Wilmington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Romeoville, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Wilmington will welcome Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wilmington 3.5, Clifton Central 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Romeoville, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Argo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
