Baseball Game Preview: Prairie Mustangs vs. Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs

Prairie is 0-5 against Haxtun since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Fightin' Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. Prairie has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Prairie's offense. They lost 12-0 to Otis on Tuesday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Haxtun won against Merino on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Fightin' Bulldogs beat the Rams by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-4. Considering the Fightin' Bulldogs have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Colin Cone made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ryland Wolff was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Chase Goddard was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.

Haxtun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Haxtun pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Prairie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
