Baseball Recap: Cheshire's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Cheshire dropped their record down to 9-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They lost 12-1 to the Notre Dame Green Knights. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this game were averaging 3.85 runs allowed.

Cheshire saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Hayden, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

As for Notre Dame, the win got them back to even at 5-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Notre Dame's side, they got a great performance from Gehrig Footit as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The Green Knights are 3-1 when Footit allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alex Riga and Michael Kelleher did most of the damage at the plate: Riga went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Kelleher went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Riga has become a key player for Notre Dame: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brandon Skerritt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Cheshire will challenge North Haven at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Notre Dame, they will face off against Wilbur Cross at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
