Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Lumberjacks vs. Brookville Blue Devils

The Oakwood Lumberjacks will face off against the Brookville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oakwood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Brookville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, Oakwood didn't have quite enough to beat Russia and fell 8-7.

Kai Wilkins put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Wilkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Braden Devine, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another was Nate Ferra, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Brookville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Tri-County North on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Brady Harrison looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Brookville: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-15 otherwise.

Brookville's win bumped their record up to 8-16. As for Oakwood, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5-1.

Oakwood skirted past Brookville 6-4 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Lumberjacks repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
