Basketball Recap: Lamar Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lamar had won two straight games and Brooklyn Robbins did her part to make it three on Thursday. The Lamar Thunder claimed a resounding 59-24 win over the La Junta Tigers thanks in part to Robbins, who went 8 of 12 en route to 18 points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Mireya Gomez, who posted eight points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

La Junta lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Katalina Salas, who scored nine points. Davina Valenzuela also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Lamar is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for La Junta, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar will square off against Banning Lewis Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lamar is facing Banning Lewis Academy at the right time seeing as Banning Lewis Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for La Junta, they will challenge Rocky Ford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
