Softball Game Preview: Washington Academy Raiders vs. Mount View Mustangs

The Washington Academy Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Mount View Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Washington Academy has six straight wins, Mount View has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Washington Academy's victory against Sumner wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Raiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Bella Cirone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Meadow Rohde, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Mount View fell victim to Bucksport and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Golden Bucks.

Washington Academy pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Mount View, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Mount View's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Washington Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mount View, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Washington Academy keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?

Everything went Washington Academy's way against Mount View in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Washington Academy made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
