Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Mooney Takes a Loss

Cardinal Mooney was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Struthers Wildcats. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 26-28, 25-21, 25-16.

Angela Bettura paced Cardinal Mooney's offense, picking up 14 kills. Bettura got some help from Natalie Blasko and her 26 assists. Bettura also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Mia Rodriguez, racking up five apiece.

Struthers got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elliana Benson out in front who had 13 digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Benson a new career-high in assists (17). Another player making a difference was Natalie Wolikow, who had 11 digs and ten assists.

Cardinal Mooney's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Struthers, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

Cardinal Mooney didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Crestview on the 27th. As for Struthers, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Chaney on the 27th.
